Samy Jaber alias Lady Samantha und Mickey Simon alias Lady Chris
sind zwei aufstrebende Drag Queens in Tel Aviv. Obwohl sie verschiedener Herkunft sind – Samy stammt aus einer arabischen Familie und Mickeys Eltern sind orthodoxe jemenitische Juden – sind ihre Lebensgeschichten sich sehr ähnlich. Beide verließen ihre Familien, und auch ihre Freundschaft beruht auf vielen Gemeinsamkeiten. Mickey, der sehr dunkelhäutig ist, wird zum Beispiel öfters grundlos von der Polizei aufgehalten, die ihn wegen seines Aussehens für einen Araber hält. Der Film ist ein humorvolles und gleichzeitig berührendes Porträt zweier beeindruckender Persönlichkeiten.

Lady Samantha and Lady Chris are two engaging drag queens – one
Arab, the other one Jewish. Despite their different cultural backgrounds,
Samy Jaber alias Lady Samantha and Mickey Simon alias Lady Chris
share the common experience of having moved to Tel Aviv to escape
familial pressures and religious intolerance. In their new home they also
share the experience of marginalization. Mickey, a dark-skinned Jew of
Yemenite ancestry, is more likely to experience the police harassment
that targets Arabs than Samy. Fantasy – Another Country presents portraits of two compelling individuals who prove that friendship and
respect between Jews and Arabs are not just a fantasy.
