Suzie Gold ist die älteste Tochter einer gut situierten jüdischen Familie in
London. Bei den Hochzeitsvorbereitungen ihrer jüngeren Schwester
bekommt auch Suzie Lust, bald zu heiraten. Im Bekanntenkreis gibt es
Anthony, einen jüdischen Burschen, der zu haben wäre. Er ist zwar gut
aussehend, aber eher ein schnöseliger Angebertyp. Als Suzie bei einer
Fernsehstation zu arbeiten beginnt, verliebt sie sich in den sympathischen Darren – der leider kein Jude ist. Ihre Beziehung bleibt geheim und nicht einmal Suzies Freundinnen erfahren davon. Doch bald beginnt die Liebe unter der Geheimnistuerei zu leiden.

Being her younger sister’s maid of honor, Suzie pines for the day
when she can find a husband of her own. The trouble is, of course, that
she is expected to marry a fellow Jew: Anthony, the slimy – albeit attractive– heir to a catering fortune. When Suzie lands a job at a TV company she falls in love with Darren who is not Jewish. They start a secret love life. Suzie persists, not even telling her best friends. „The director and screenwriter also neatly manage to avoid too many clichés about the Jewish community: sure, there is plenty of talk about food, wealth and social status, but these never become too stereotypical, as it’s clear the actors thoroughly believe in the characters they are playing.
