Leo, ein Überlebender der Shoah, leidet an totaler Amnesie. Er wandert in
die USA aus, wo er als Hotelportier arbeitet und bemerkt, dass er über eine
großartige Stimme verfügt. Nach einem Überfall auf ihn und im Zuge einer
psychiatrischen Behandlung wird ihm bewusst, dass er mit richtigem Namen
David heißt und Sohn eines bekannten Kantors ist. Als die Erinnerungen
an seine ermordeten Eltern immer klarer werden, gibt er seine Karriere als
Sänger in einem Nachtklub auf und wird Kantor in einer Synagoge. Regisseur
Max Nosseck (19. September 1902, Naklo-nad-Notecia, Polen – 29 September
1972, Bad Wiessee, Deutschland) verwendete in Singing in the Dark auch
Filmmaterial aus dem Deutschland der Nachkriegszeit.

Leo is a survivor of the Shoah who suffers from total amnesia. He comes to
the U.S.A., where he works as a hotel desk clerk. Under a psychiatrist's treatment, and because of a blow to the head by some hoodlums, he remembers
his name is David and that he is the son of a great Jewish Cantor. Gradually,
he recovers his memory of losing his parents and gives up a promising
career singing in nightclubs to return to the synagogue. “Filmed in Hollywood,
