Claude, ein schüchterner jüdischer Bursche, ist während seines Sommerurlaubs
Isabelle begegnet, deren Eltern jüdische Diamantenhändler in Antwerpen
sind. Als die junge Frau schwanger wird, drängen die beiden Familien
auf Heirat. Die Welt scheint in Ordnung – bis Claude sich drei Wochen vor der
Hochzeit in eine andere Frau verliebt.

During vacation, Claude, a shy Jewish boy, meets young Isabelle whose
parents are Jewish diamond dealers in Antwerp. When the young woman
becomes pregnant, both families force her and Claude to get married. “On
his way to the altar Claude succumbs to a touch of Portnoy's complaint. He
develops a ravenous appetite for his beautiful English teacher and abruptly
decides that he has found true love. Barricades are formed by the relatives,
insults and wounds are exchanged. But finally Claude and Isabelle discover
that truce is beauty and end the war at a ritualistic nuptial feast. (…) The trials
