Nach seiner Entlassung aus einem israelischen Gefängnis kehrt Mazen in
sein palästinensisches Heimatdorf zurück. Er verliebt sich in die schöne
Raeda, die aber mit Mazens jüngerem Bruder Taher heimlich verlobt ist. Der
Film The Olive Harvest, den der palästinensische Regisseur Hanna Elias mit
einer israelischen Crew drehte, erzählt nicht nur eine dramatische Liebesgeschichte,
sondern schildert auch die Situation junger Frauen in einer
patriarchalischen Welt.
After his release from an Israeli prison, Mazen returns to his Palestinian
hometown. There he develops romantic feelings for his childhood friend,
beautiful Raeda. However, she is already engaged to Mazen's younger
brother Taher, and their love is kept a secret because of the tradition for the
eldest brother to wed first. More than a mere love story, The Olive Harvest
explores the dynamics of human relationships. Palestinian director Hanna
Elias, who made his film with an Israeli crew says,”The Israeli crew used
their hearts and arms throughout the shoot, and we made a wonderful project
together. Other Israelis and Palestinians use their hearts and arms to destroy
one another. It's a personal choice."
