Regisseur und Drehbuchautor David Volach wuchs als eines von neunzehn
Kindern einer ultra-orthodoxen Familie in Israel auf. Im Mittelpunkt seines
preisgekrönten Filmes steht der angesehene Rabbi Eidelmann, Oberhaupt
einer strengorthodoxen Gemeinde, der mit seiner Frau Esther und ihrem Sohn
Menahem ans Tote Meer reisen will. Während der Vorbereitungen kommt
Rabbi Eidelmann in Konflikt mit seiner Rolle als geistlicher Führer und als
Familienvater, der Verantwortung für Frau und Kind trägt. Am Toten Meer
kommt es zu einer Tragödie. David Volach gelingt „eine moderne Interpretation
der alttestamentarischen Geschichte von Abraham, der bereit ist, seinen

Rabbi Eidelmann is the respected Rabbi of an Israeli ultra-Orthodox community.
Together with his wife Esther and their only son Menahem, he makes
plans for a trip to the Dead Sea. Soon the Rabbi is forced to come to terms
with the demands of his faith and the welfare of his own family. “It happens
that a film touches your feelings, and it‘s difficult to say why: because of
an intimate knowledge of a social milieu (an orthodox Jewish community in
Israel); because of a universal touch of the story (the death of a child, the
